Contract

Attention: In order to work as an au pair in the USA, you have to apply through a US designated agency. The agency will be in charge of some of the formalities. You will also sign your au pair contract with your host family through one of these 14 US designated agencies.

Health insurance

The agency you choose with your host family for the au pair placement will take out a health insurance for you. You can get more information about insurance from your agency.

Travel cost

The travel cost is included in the placement fee you and your host family have to pay for one of the designated au pair sponsors.

Car driving and driving licence

In the USA, cars are the most popular transportation means. Therefore, you will most probably drive the car of your host family. You need to clarify in advance issues of insurance and liability. Your au pair agency can help you more on this issue.

As an au pair in the USA, you definitely need a driving licence. In this context, you need to find out whether or not your driving licence is valid or if you need an international licence. Your agency can provide you with more information.

Safety
