Au Pair Programme GermanyDo not forget: contract, insurance & Co.
Here you will find some important information on contract, invitation letter, insurance and safety. Thus, you will be well-prepared for your stay.
ContractFor your own safety, it is recommended to sign an au pair contract with your host family. You can find the official contract in accordance with the European Agreement in German and English. Tip: You and your host family should talk about your mutual expectations in advance and note down everything that is important for you in the contract. Thus, you can avoid future disappointments. Please note: the Employment Agency (Agentur für Arbeit) acknowledges au pair contracts that are concluded for a placement of at least 6 months. If you are from a non-European country, you may work as an au pair for 12 months maximum in Germany. If you have already worked as an au pair in Germany, you may not become an au pair again regardless of the length of the previous au pair placement. Health insurance, social security and liability insuranceAccording to the Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur für Arbeit), the host family should take out an insurance for the au pair for the following cases: illness, pregnancy, childbirth and accident. In other words, you should be covered by a medical and liability insurance taken out by your host family. According to our research, the insurance cost range between 20 and 50 euros per month depending on the provider, extent of coverage and performance. If you are an EU citizen, you should clarify with your health insurance company if you will equally be covered in Germany. Let your host family know if this is the case. Should the latter apply, they will not need to take out an insurance for you. More information with regard to the subject of au pair insurance is obtainable directly from our partner Care Concept. Car driving and driving licenceClarify with your host family beforehand if you will be expected to drive a car. If so, you need to make sure that your national driving licence will be valid in your host country. Most probably, you will need to apply for an international driving licence. Please find more information on this issue on the pages of the ADAC or the Bundesministerium für Verkehr, Bau und Stadtentwicklung (Federal Ministry of transport, building, and urban development). Clarify questions such as: what happens in case of an accident? Who pays for the damage costs? It is recommended to set out your agreement in writing. How to be on the safe side
